Eating Tips While Traveling As A Vegetarian or Vegan
Many of my clients have recently traveled or are going to travel soon for work or leisure. 🧳 So, a lot of my recent 1:1 sessions have centered around strategizes for vegetarian or vegan eating when traveling!

Here are some of my dietitian tips:

🔹Pack non-perishable snacks! Put some snacks in both in your carry-on and checked bags if flying. Some of my fav vegan travel friendly snacks are: Nugo Nutrition bars, crunchy chickpeas (especially Saffron Road brand), Nature’s Bakery fig bars, pretzels, dried fruit, trail mix (I do not recommend eating on your actual flight due to potential passengers with food allergies), applesauce pouches, vegan cereals (my favorites are Nature’s Path Organic, Barbara’s, and 365 by Whole Foods Brown Rice Crisps and Morning O’s), Lesser Evil popcorn, and 88 Acres bars + seed butters. 🎒

🔹 Research vegan/vegetarian options at cafes/ restaurants near your terminal ahead of time if flying. One of my clients recently told me that Midway airport has more plant-based options than it did a few years ago, which is exciting! ✈️

🔹 If driving, research cafes/restaurants in any town you plan to stop in or stay the night ahead of time. I recommend using Happy Cow. 🚗

🔹If possible, get a hotel, airbnb, etc. near a grocery store wherever you are staying for your trip. This will allow you to stock up on any of your usual perishable staples (I.e. vegan yogurts, plant milks, frozen fruit, etc.) if you have access to a refrigerator/freezer and/or to restock your non-perishables. 🛒

🔹 Research restaurants /cafes in your destination ahead of time, so you have a plan and can contact them if needed. Again, I recommend using Happy Cow. I also recommend asking fellow plant-based friends for ideas, especially if traveling to a popular destination or if you know someone who has been to there before. 🍽️
Lastly, if you’re curious, the photo of me is from Civico 1845 in San Diego, my favorite place I ate dinner at on my honeymoon back in July 2017. 🍝 They had a seperate vegan menu, which I LOVED & the food was fantastic! 😍 I highly recommend!👌🏻
