Animal Rights Advocacy As A Plant-Based Person

As a longtime vegan this quote really resonates. I’ll be 6 years vegan in May & 11 years plant-based total! I was previously vegetarian from Sept. 2013-May 2018. Last weekend was my 1st time since going vegan where I spent a significant amount of time with an animal that isn’t my cat Bria 🐈⬛ or a family/friend’s pet. I can confirm there is no difference!
Maple loves scritches, belly rubs, the smell of coffee, fresh produce, & people! 🐷 She is truly a star & a social butterfly! She was rescued from a factory farm & fostered through Chicagoland Pig Rescue & over the weekend Lost Girls Vintage hosted a going away party for her. I had the best time Saturday celebrating her + sending her off to her forever home at a farm sanctuary in Tennessee! 🏠 She will get to live out the rest of her life with other rescues & all the love she deserves. 🥰
Joaquin Phoenix said it best when he said: “It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal.” And there are so many steps you can take in addition to or besides going vegan to advocate for animals! If you cannot go fully vegan, can you sometimes eat a vegan meal? 🌱 Can you foster an animal? If you want a pet, can you adopt? Can you donate time or money to an animal rights organization, animal shelter, or farm sanctuary?
As a vegan dietitian who works with many plant-based clients, I find that the ones that are involved in animal advocacy have an easier time staying vegan or vegetarian because they are motivated by a cause that is outside/bigger than them. 🌎
Meeting Maple inspired me to get more involved in animal rights besides what is on my plate too!
