Quick Vegan Pre-Run Snacks
As a veggie athlete, are you unsure of what to eat for energy before running or working out? 🙋🏼♀️

Are you tempted to skip a snack because you don’t want GI issues on your run?😓 Even though you know that the energy boost a snack provides will result in a better workout? Nothing is worse than picking a snack before your run that doesn’t agree with you. 😩 I do not recommend popcorn the night before or within a few hours of your run for example…🙃💩🍿 But, I digress. 🤣⠀
⠀
~30 minutes before a run or workout you want to select a snack that is high in simple carbohydrates & low in fat & fiber. Higher fiber & higher fat snacks take longer to digest & can lead to GI issues during your workout. Higher protein snacks can also be irritating to many people during a workout. Save the higher fat, fiber, & protein snacks for after your workout if you are a sensitive individual.

It is a little bit of trial & error to find what works for you, but here are some ideas! ☺️

🔹 An Untapped Waffle. I love the maple, cocoa, or coffee flavor pre-run. 🍁⠀

🔹 A couple graham crackers sheets. Partake Foods is my favorite vegan graham crackers. They are also GF. A handful of crackers or pretzels also work well! 🥨⠀

🔹 1/2- 1 whole bagel. I personally love Dave’s Killer Bread plain, cinnamon, or blueberry. 🥯⠀

🔹Applesauce pouches (such as GoGo Squeeze) are another great option. 🍎

🔹 A Nature’s Bakery fig bar. Another great easy to digest option! The Apple Cinnamon is my favorite flavor! 🍏⠀

🔹 A couple rice cakes as a GF/vegan option. I really like the salted caramel & the cinnamon toast Lundberg Farm rice cakes. 🍙

🔹 Annie’s Homegrown Bunny Fruit Snacks. They are vegan, easy to digest, & taste just like candy. I also love Bear Fruit Rolls & Fruit Minis. They digest similarly to Annie’s for me. 😋 You could also have dried fruit, such as a few dates.

🔹 Really short on time? Sip on Tailwind Nutrition Endurance Fuel (Naked & Matcha are my favorite) or take a vegan energy gel (such as Spring Energy Canaberry) as you lace up your shoes or at the beginning of your run! 🥤
